IoTForum has been promoting sub GHZ IoT network and has worked very hard to let DoT/TRAI permit LPWAN in SmartCity rather than insisting on Licensed operators. We have also influenced Spectrum recommendations for IoT .Hear it in the Launch of IoTForum V2.0
Sub GHz Ultra narrow band communication for IoT (LPWAN) has emerged as a clear winner and already commands 46% of public spaces IoT network. For Home networks WiFi, Zigbee, Z-wave and BLE mesh are user administered IoT networks. LPWAN like LoRa has emerged as a similar self-managed IoT network for intermediate range of 3 to 12 Kms. This drive for open hardware and software is accelerating in IoT. ON World’s analysis of nearly 100 LPWA network operators found that unlicensed networks such as Sigfox and LoRa make up two-thirds today. Unusual adoption are best seen in Fleetspace US$2/Device/year success with 1 million devices thru nano satellites. Alibaba, Tencent and ZTE in China have also invested into LoRa.
For the Indian context IoTForum suggests the investment exceeding 100 Billion USD needed by operators on NB-IoT and 5G will delay mass availability to well beyond 2025 or more. In the meanwhile, the ability for private, non telecom operator, free unlicensed spectrum IoT networks like LoRa provide compelling opportunity for big farms, industrial factories and communities. The LoRa Business case – A discussion will cover the Indian situation. The Workshop: LoRa 101 Technology Implementation and Challenges will get into nitty-gritty of components and setup / installation of your own LoRa network.
LoRa Business Case - A discussion
The panellists are running business which have deployed LoRa in India and will describe the solutions and networks in use as well as touch upon the numbers that will help to understand costs, benefits, speed of deployment and other benefits of using LoRa

Future sessions
The success of LPWAN has led to a unusually fast adaptation by the cellular industry with CAT-M1 in North America and NB-IOT derived from Neul now Huawei . mMTC (massive Machine Type Communications) and URLLC (Ultra-Reliable and Low Latency Communications) option are proposed in 5G standards to be approved by ITU in 2020. There are other niche ones like WiSun (IEEE 802.15.4u electric utilities), Zigbee 3.0 (900 MHz ), Wize ( 169 MHz), Weightless (TV whitespace). We will cover some niche and future narrow band IoT appropriate options in different sessions in future.

India has the (bad) distinction of several cities among the most polluted in the world.
Even South Korea, London or San Francisco and other places suffer. Regulatory approaches including the Honourable Supreme court have used coercive methods like banning diesel cars or Diwali firecrackers in Delhi. Part of the problem is extreme variability of measures like PMI ( up to 100% in a day) and many causes adding to metrological phenomenon. China has taken large scale expensive and very coercive methods to reduce Air Pollution and achieved difference of 30% or more. IoTForum has discussed with stakeholders like Clear Air Platform, KUIDFC, Smart City Namma Bengaluru , Centre for Environmental Science & Engineering, IITK and proposed a crowdsourced project to try several experiments to reduce pollution in Bangalore. This is an innovative approach which intends to use hourly contribution from thousands of residents, hundreds of Corporates, dozens of NGO and open data community with advanced AI/ML and IoT Data Sensor cloud. The Government of Karnataka is supporting and will be a partner in this public-private initiative.
Come hear the plan and join us in individual, team or thru your organization in improving Bengaluru air quality. This will improve health, increase non motor mobility and reduce carbon for Go Green Bengaluru.
