Amsterdam Airport Schiphol launches own Internet of Things network
        Auto extracted Text……

The Netherlands’ Amsterdam Airport Schiphol has completed the deployment of its own network for Internet of Things (IoT) applications.
All public areas of the airport, including the arrival and departure halls, lounges, piers and Schiphol Plaza, will be covered by the IoT network.
It will also offer coverage in non-public areas such as the baggage basements and aprons.
Compared to Wi-Fi, the network offers better range and lower power consumption.
It is specifically designed to connect with smart sensors and transfer data over long distances.
The sensors will connect the airport’s facilities and infrastructure with the internet.
Information from these sensors will give real-time insights to the airport.
Passengers can leverage the application to share their feedback about the toilets and other amenities.
The data can be used by the airport authority to analyse their services.
Last month, Amsterdam Airport Schiphol received around 550,000 responses.
The data helps cleaning contractors to take the necessary measures to ensure satisfactory toilet cleanliness.
Schiphol also noted that it will use sensors at aircraft stands to provide real-time information about the aircraft stand equipment.
This will help in ensuring that the equipment is available when personnel reach the gate.
Schiphol chief information officer Sjoerd Blüm said: “The in-house network for Internet of Things underscores our ambition to remain a front runner when it comes to digitalisation at airports and making the applications at Schiphol smart, so that we can improve our processes for passengers and partners.
“Internet of Things applications are already in use, and we will be able to implement new cases quickly in future.
Through the use of digital sensors, we intend to improve our services and make the airport more attractive.
