TiE IoT Forum – Contiki Workshop on Middleware for IoT
February 26, 2015 @ 9:30 am - 5:00 pm
The Internet of Things, or the IoT is a vision for a ubiquitous society wherein people and “Things” are connected in an immersively networked computing environment.
The Contiki IoT workshop will focus on middleware for IoT, a critical software suite that enables seamless dataflow in the system; and will cover “some” of the physical/cyber co-design and co-interaction aspects.
To explore these aspects, the one day workshop will provide a crisp overview of existing middleware technologies followed by a detailed description and hands-on session on: (i) operating systems, simulators and emulators with case studies on Contiki, COOJA/MSPSim; (ii) IP-based low-power wireless communication with a case study on RPL; and (iii) specialized web transfer protocols for use with constrained nodes and constrained networks with a case study on CoAP.
This foundation will be used to unearth some of the unaddressed problems, of which lack of device interoperability is a prime one. The next half of the tutorial will, therefore, provide a new direction to address this issue with a mechanism for self-describing devices, as part of a plug-n-play IoT infrastructure that is necessary for interoperability (across platforms from multiple vendors) and successful deployment of large-scale systems.
