As medical and scientific communities across the world strive to manage the highly infectious COVID-19 pandemic, advanced technology like Artificial Intelligence (AI) is being leveraged to effectively aid the health care system in this process.
The COVID-19 bus, equipped with AI-aided software from Qure.ai for digital X-ray systems and a host of other medical testing facilities like oxygen saturation and body temperature checks, has begun mass screening individuals in the high-risk areas of Worli, Mumbai.
Following the qXR analysis, medium and high-risk candidates are immediately directed for the next steps in the pandemic management process.
Since qXR also localizes lung abnormalities detected and indicates them as a percentage of the lung(s) affected, they can also be effectively used for progression monitoring of confirmed cases who may be on treatment for the infection.
How does qXR-COVID help plug this gap and assist in large scale screening and testing individuals for the infection?
Within minutes of receiving an X-ray, qXR- COVID identifies abnormalities that are radiological manifestations of COVID-19, such as ground-glass opacities (GGO) and bilateral consolidations, also accounting for contraindications, to predict the likelihood and severity of COVID-19 infection.
Based on these findings, the percentage of the lung affected is indicated, and the X-ray is assigned a COVID score.
Patients with COVID score Medium and High are instantly identified, within 45 seconds, and directed for next steps- isolation or confirmatory RT-PCR testing based on other clinical indicators so that the limited test kits are optimally utilized.
MCGM is in the process of mobilizing more such vans to replicate this method of mass screening across other high-risk areas in the city.
Qure’s qXR software, trained on over 3 million chest X-rays using deep learning, can detect different abnormalities in the lungs
