Do you know 🤔 why there was unrest in ant colony when I was presenting ‘Future of #IoT’ in #IoTCongress last week? SSumanta Baruah captured well in cartoon: are we stealing secrets in the name of inspiration from nature? ‘Anternet’ to ‘Internet’.
Prof. Gordon of Stanford studied #ant communication and Prof. Prabhakar analyzed #internet protocols. When ants go for food collection, often they return quickly with food. It means an ‘Ack’ in #TCP: good bandwidth. When they come back with less food, it means congestion control needed. Going, but not returning for a while, tantamounts to hard to find food: ‘NAck’. For internet packets, it means defining alternate path for #transmission.
#Nature has a lot of learnings in store for us! Enjoy while exploring!
