Jio and global telcos collaborates with Industry Partners to facilitate O-RThis is a very disruptive Global initiative from JIO, World wide Operators , Vendors and System Integrators. A great way to Dynamically assemble and test End to End solutions and products based on Opensource initiatives from O-RAN . Expecting many more alliances in future. I have finishing my 5 Day tour to EU (London SCF and Edge Computing Congress) and I can hear the open source initiatives being very seriously followed and adapted everywhere including Edge Platforms, 5G NR and Core slices, Private Non Public NW as well as Neutral host . MUMBAI: Reliance Jio Infocomm (Jio) along with other global operators, vendors and integrators launched Open Test and Integration Center (OTIC) , an initiative which will help OEMs and other open source products and solutions to be functionally compliant to the specifications of the O-RAN Alliance.O-RAN Alliance is a carrier led initiative to encourage more openness in the radio access networks around the world.
China Mobile , China Industry/China Unicom , Intel, Radisys, Samsung Cons. Products‘, Airspan, Baicells, CertusNet, Mavenir, Lenovo were among the operators and vendors who were part of OTIC initiative.“We are fast-tracking our efforts in 5G and Open technologies by developing and working with OTIC to accelerate the adoption of industry standard, interoperable O-RAN based deployments,” said Mathew Oommen, president, Reliance Jio.
“Working together, O- RAN, SOC providers, Operators, OEMs and solution providers are all important partners in the creation of the Open Wireless Network as a Platform.
The OTIC is an important step toward enabling the commercialization of the Open RAN Platform and the new model for wireless networks,” he added.These initiatives are coming at a time when India ‘s next set of spectrum sale will see the debut of 5G spectrum, that is expected to propel telecom services and their offerings into the next phase.“O-RAN Alliance is driving RAN innovation to address operational efficiencies, mobile broadband traffic growth, and vertical industry requirements with the necessary flexibility and agility.
Its disaggregated architecture focuses on open interfaces, open source software, open hardware reference design, and embedded AI/ML and data analytics,” said Li Zhengmao, EVP of China Mobile
