80% of the potential can be achieved in existing plants by incorporating new technology in the equipment and systems in place
It is possible to make the switch to the plant of the future without completely annihilating the past, by taking advantage of the company’s existing technology and employees’ potential.
These are not our most innovative or most spectacular experiments: they are accessible and effective solutions that are now used by 7,000 operators in 100 Group plants around the world.
It allows us to begin the shift in a plant with a budget of less than $1,000 by providing operators with dedicated smartphones.
The app, first used in our 4.0 pilot plant in Eggborough, United Kingdom, has been rolled out in 25 flat glass plants worldwide.
At the sites where we have introduced these initiatives, we have been able to measure the improvement in productivity, ease-of-use and flexibility enabled by using smartphones every day in production.
Computing solutions, based on a nano-computer with open-source artificial intelligence software, can be implemented for just a few hundred dollars on key machines significantly improving product and process quality.
This monitoring soon results in energy savings, for example, and helps operators get accustomed to using data.
In the longer term, once this data has been stored and enriched, it can be used as a base for rolling out multi-plant comprehensive artificial intelligence solutions.
We adopted this solution to equip our abrasive manufacturing plants in India.
This helps us improve how we manage manufacturing process data and so optimize our use of resources and energy without compromising on the quality and performance of our products.
Many of today’s young start-ups are working on solutions to digitalize factories.
At our Saint-Gobain Sekurit plant in Aniche, France, for example, we worked with the Mobility Work start-up
