Machine Learning and Cyber Security: Continuing Convergence

In this talk we will discuss some applications of machine learning in cyber security tool development such as malware analysis, application firewall, anomaly detection to prevent intrusion, and analysis of threat intelligence information for better preparedness against cyber attacks. On the other side, we also will discuss how machine learning models are being subjected to cyber attack to either impact their accuracy or creating unfair and biased decision making. So the two topics are now intricately intertwined — and this talk will give a basic overview of how such interdependency is a double edged sword in today’s digitalized world.
