The National Institute of Standards and Technology has issued an invitation for commercial organizations to contribute technology platforms and technical expertise to help secure internet of things devices.
NIST said in a Federal Register notice posted Wednesday the agency’s National Cybersecurity Center of Excellence intends to partner with companies to identify methods to protect connected devices from distributed denial-of-service attacks through the Mitigating IoT-Based DDoS Building Block initiative.
The goal of the project is to reduce the vulnerability of multiple systems to automated distributed threats that work by exploiting IoT components.
NCCoE wants the project to include network gateways/routers supporting wired and wireless network access; manufacturer usage description specification controllers and file servers; dynamic host configuration protocol and update servers; threat signaling servers; personal computing devices; and business computing devices.
Letters of request must follow a template that can be found here.
