The Things Industries has been named the Cool Vendor in IoT by Gartner. The report “Cool Vendors in IoT Thingification, 2019” highlights the vendors making breakthroughs in the IoT industry and having “the potential to turn an IoT project into a truly revolutionary solution” (Bill Ray, Analyst at Gartner).
The report states that The Things Industries enables companies to build wide-area networks using open protocols and low-cost infrastructure. By supplying infrastructure and network management tools, companies can leverage LoRaWAN technology by using the products and services from The Things Industries to avoid relying on network coverage provided by large-scale communications service providers.
While The Things Industries is offering SLA-backed services and additional commercial features, an open-source version is available under the name The Things Network, which is currently being used by 70000 people globally. The open network fits well with the open LoRaWAN standard, developed by the LoRa Alliance.
